Welcome
The Hope Point Counseling Ministries Department is dedicated to providing quality Christian counseling to the Yuba City/Marysville community. Our desire is to bring hope and healing into the lives of those who seek it. We believe that the combining of mental health education and healthy spiritual truths bring about wholeness of heart, life and relationships.
History
The counseling ministry was a passion of Bill Osburn, who dedicated himself to others. Bill’s boots will be hard to fill. He is probably asking for a job already, now that he's gone on to meet the Lord.
Bill arrived at the church in Yuba City with his lovely wife, Bette, in the early 1990s for their "retirement" years. But they faced a treacherous battle all too soon. Bette learned she had cancer and fought it with a grace and tenacity beyond comprehension. But it still took her away, all too quickly. Shortly thereafter, Bill found himself busy in a new career as the church counselor, helping others with their troubles. It was a far cry from his job as a weather forecaster in the U.S. Air Force.
He started grief recovery groups. He saw others facing troubles and found ways to help them begin working on them. He became the spark that led to Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous groups having meetings at the church. He also trained to become a Trauma Intervention Program (TIP) volunteer and assisted those with terminal illnesses as a hospice counselor. He acquired so many certificates and titles that his business cards couldn't hold them all. The acronyms resembled alphabet soup, but they centered on healing marriages, restoring families and consoling the hurting.
Individuals, couples and families found a quiet, compassionate man with a giant heart. But Bill didn't just listen. He challenged people to examine their situation and take serious action to work on their own stuff, and not point fingers at others. Often, he would offer a daily dose of humor to the mix, passing along jokes on handouts after a session.
Bill is greatly missed and it is our hope to continue his legacy as we reach out to the hurting of our community.
John 8:32 - "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free."
