The weeds are growing, the grass is growing, the electrical bill is growing, the kids are REALLY growing and so are their appetites! My five year old informed me that he needs bigger shoes because his shoes shrunk. I can actually SEE my teenages son’s feet get bigger as the seconds pass. My daughter is never disappointed that she needs new clothes. My 2 1/2 year old is too big for the biggest size diaper so we are attempting to potty train…he keeps asking us to put the diaper back on because it is too much work to use the potty. It is true… Growing = Work. I love how God helps us understand our spiritual lives by paralleling it with our physical lives. In order for us to grow…it takes work. It takes work to weed out old habits or to water our souls with living water. Have you worked on your spiritual growth this summer as much as you have worked on your yard? Ouch! Well, the growing season is still here…it is never too late! Besides your own devotions, church attendance, and service to others, it is almost time to sign up for Fall Life Groups!! Set your mind on continuing your growth and watch for sign-ups the end of August!

I am Marcy Morgan, the Life Group Pastor here at Hope Point.  Life is a journey and the best way to travel on a journey is with someone else.  I have to admit, some travel companions may increase the need for pain relievers and mood-altering drugs…but without these people…we wouldn’t appreciate the “piece of cake” people in our lives.  My blog is going to give you some ideas about connecting with others at Hope Point as well as some personal insights and humor about every day life.  I hope you enjoy my blog as well as try some new ways to get connected with the Body of Christ at Hope Point.

The first connection suggestion occurs Saturday, July 9th at 9 am in the Main Sanctuary of Hope Point Naz. (600 N. George Washington Blvd., Yuba City).  Women are welcome to join the Prayer Breakfast.  We will have a yummy breakfast and are learning to pray through scriptures.  It is a great time of fellowship, learning, and prayer…and of course the food is definitely a Bonus!!!!  Join us and give your weekend a great start.  The Women’s Prayer Breakfast occurs every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month.

Life lesson #1 – Weeds are problematic.  We have lived in our house for 2 1/2 years now, and my backyard remains rather ugly.  No matter how many weeds I pull, more come back….and not even the same kind…WHAT IS THAT!  I haven’t planted grass or flowers because; 1.  I am mustering the energy to actually do the work,  2. Anything besides weeds costs money,  3. The space is also my children’s playground and takes a beating on a daily basis.  I dream of a beautiful, green, flowering, shady yard that I can sit back and relax in..then I open my eyes and see the nightmare that is really there.  Yikes!  All I really have are weeds.  Our lives are so much like my yard.  A beautiful life takes; 1.  effort to build a relationship with God,  2.  Time, and money (tithe)…or our obedience to maintain what has been planted in our hearts, 3.  The determination to stay focused and not be distracted by others or things that can take our time, attention, and money.  I may dream of a different yard (or life), but without the effort…I will never have it.  I guess I need to get back to pulling some weeds and planting something better to look at in both areas.  How about you?
